I am a seasoned military wife, hard-working mom of four sweet kids, micro-farmer, homeschooler, devout Christian, and artist... hope to inspire those willing to try the Zentangle Method of pen and ink drawing!
Growing up in an artistic family, it was impossible for me not to be influenced by all forms of artistry. From performing arts, to simplistic drawing, I desire to create and explore new forms of artwork as well as teach others how to find the confidence to do so as well. Not only do I love to teach, create, and inspire, I hope to connect with others and encourage them to recognize the beauty in this world and in their art.
"I believe God put me on this earth to make a difference. Great or small, I desire to encourage others to never give up, pursue mindfulness and peace, be aware of their surroundings, and build a life with meaning. Here I am, Lord, send me. " - Christian Franklin
I embrace a learning environment that focus's on the possibility of self growth. My lessons incorporate traditional learning styles, as well as, practicing a form of meditation while drawing. I lead you in simple breathing exercises, gentle in-chair relaxation stretches and encourage a mindset of possibilities, not mistakes. I usually have calm music playing in the background to enhance your experience.
Your personal growth is my main priority. Building confidence in your artistic abilities, improving focus and strengthening your self - perspective are just some of the benefits of the Zentangle Method. I provide a personal approach, adjusting to each artist's needs. I am not perfect and neither are you, that's the beauty in individuality. Let's recognize our artistic abilities, create beautiful works of art and grow together.
"Our method is easy-to-learn, relaxing, and a fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. We call these patterns, tangles. You create tangles with combinations of simple shapes such as lines and dots. Zentangle art is more or less unplanned so you can focus on each stroke and not worry about the result.
These patterns are drawn on small pieces of paper called "tiles." We call them tiles because you can assemble them into mosaics.
We never use the word "mistake" in the Zentangle Method. Even if those pen marks aren't initially what you might have intended, you can use them as inspirations to go in directions that you may not have otherwise explored. Instead of looking at them as mistakes, we reframe them as "opportunities."
People of all ages, skills and interests enjoy the Zentangle Method all over the world. Together, they form a community of passionate and grateful artists, full of friendships, support, sharing and learning.
Even though the name has “zen” in it, we do not teach Zen Buddhism or any religion. I teach how to create beautiful art with gratitude and appreciation. People who draw using this method, describe their experiences as a state of mindfulness and flow, enhancing focus, learning more patience and strengthening their imagination and creativity. "
"After one class, my 11 yo daughter demonstrated more focus and calm in her artwork. Christian has a gentle, encouraging, fun way of imparting her love of Zentangle to others, especially kids. After a year of lessons with Christian, my daughter has expanded her Zentangle repertoire, explored her own unique ways of creating, and enjoyed every bit of it! Zentangle has boosted her self-confidence and allowed her to work with an excellent mentor, something I'm very grateful for as a mother." 2023

"My daughter and I have been taking Zentangle classes with Christian for the past several weeks. This has become one of our favorite things, and we very much look forward to her classes! She does a wonderful job of creating a calm, peaceful atmosphere where we can feel relaxed and focused. She is a great instructor, teaching with clarity and with patience. She is also very encouraging and is helping us to appreciate and improve upon our own artistic abilities. I would recommend her classes to anyone! " 2022
